“Great to be back out on the fairways again with the society & a good turnout with 25 members and 1 guest. It seemed a lot longer than 12 weeks since the last one, thankfully we’re all still here to keep playing although I’m not sure that will continue if Kevin Wilson’s social distancing regs lapses continue! Thankfully he didn’t need to take the flag pole out very often ( sorry Kev )
Wirral is short, even off the whites but was an ideal challenge for the restart. The greens were a bit on the slow side but overall presented in great condition. Lots of good scores registered with 18 at 30+ & 4 making it into the 40s. My sincere apologies to Paul. If I’d played as I did at Formby on Friday I’d have been nailed on for the wooden spoon but thankfully my alter ego turned up & having to give me 11 shots he was on a hiding to nothing in the matchplay. He did have the consolation of walking away with the longest drive prize, no mean feat with all the young bucks in the society these days, hats off.
Good to see Kevin Wilson back with us clicking along with his dodgy walnut whip, & 28 pts, not bad for an old croc . The new slimline Josh was as good company as ever. His new sylphlike figure hasn’t taken anything away from his monster drives but I’m not sure the course suited his power game? He could have done with a 100yds adding to each hole.
The weather was great, how do we get away with it so often? They say the sun shines on the righteous, so whichever one of you qualifies in that dept please keep turning up. Walking down the 18th fairway, hot, tired & gagging for a cold beer we were ruing the fact that we couldn’t have a cold pint of San Miguel only to find that the star of the day, Colin, had brought a car load of cold beers, awesome! No one at the club seemed to mind us milling around. It finished the day off nicely, wouldn’t have been the same without it, well done Col .
The main talking point was Wadders flowing silky locks bursting out from under his cap Willy Wonka style. Needless to say most of those taking the mickey hadn’t been in the least bit affected by the lack of hairdressing facilities during lockdown.
Great day all round & fingers crossed see you all at Dean Wood on the 12th.”
Thanks and congrats to our winner Mike Kirkland
