Dean Wood Golf Club

Once again the weather Gods shone on us. We’d had a society day here donkeys years ago and my memory of it was that it wasn’t up to much but I’ve got to say I thought it was in great nick & a perfect venue for a society outing, one we should definitely keep on the regular play calendar.  The physics defying greens were a serious test, uphill was downhill, left to right was right to left & fast!

Having been in a group with Simon & Steve it’s pretty obvious that any longest drive comp wins are a thing of the past, maybe time to introduce an over 50s LD comp? Having said that our third group member Mike Bower can still bomb them out there! Not bad for one of the old farts that’s spent as much time recovering from operations as he has playing golf in the last few years.

I certainly wasn’t expecting to have to write this again after the 6 shot slash from Wirral, and with 8 now gone in the last 2 outings I suspect any chance of winning the championship has sailed off into the sunset. Commiserations to Steve in our matchplay, it could easily have gone the other way if a couple of tiddler putts had dropped for him.

Well done to all the other comp winners and looking forward to seeing one and all at Hill Valley.  The weather forecasts looking great so can’t wait.  At least I’ve got enough golf balls for the first 2 rounds.

Thanks and big congrats to our back-to-back winner, Mike Kirkland!
