Blackpool North Shore Golf Club

After missing my first event as captain I thought it was probably about right to turn up this time. As we pulled into the car park and saw the open nature of the golf course we all thought ‘this is a Dave Hadden course’. Maybe that was the inspiration I needed to try and post a score knowing it could be my Dad I was going to beat.

My first drive as captain went much better than expected, straight out of the middle of the club and I was off. Sadly, the next shot was the worst I’ve ever hit in my life going one yard forward and twenty yards right and it’s fair to say I didn’t see a forty pointer coming after that! I did think the match play against Steve Doran might go well when he took seven shots on each of his first six holes, each time followed by his best Len Goodman impression ‘SEVEN’. Thankfully Steve’s company was a pleasure as always and it more than made up for having to play with Simon Davies…

Apologies to Barry Dreaves who takes another second place with a great score similar to when he was narrowly beaten at Leasowe a few years ago. If there’s any consolation maybe we can now change the last line of his song from ‘five off the teeeeeee’ to ‘top of the leeeeeeague’.
